Welcome to The Jazz Initiative!
The Jazz Initiative is a nonprofit organization created by Founder and Director Ritch Barnes–a Jazz enthusiast. The objective is an effort to keep Jazz alive by bringing youth and elders together to experience the joy of Jazz.
We will have discussions, listen to recordings, experience live performances from students, faculty, staff, and guest artists, screen documentaries, and listen to stories from those who were there for great, legendary performances.
Jazz is an original American art form that spans over a hundred years. The performances, the evolution of the music, the musicians, and the stories of Jazz are meant to be shared and live on forever.
In the words of Trombonist J.J. Johnson, “Jazz is restless. It won’t stay put and it never will.”
